The Road After Five
When the sun dips behind the western karst ridge and the mountain road turns entirely silent.

By five in the afternoon, the day-tripper minivans have all arrived in Pai or Mae Hong Son. The asphalt begins to cool rapidly. As the shadow of the western limestone ridge stretches across the valley, the light shifts to a deep amber-gold. Swallows dart across the road chasing the evening insect hatch, and the vast stillness of the mountains settles in for the night.
